SHALLOW POEMS

I pretend the hard pillow on which

I place my head, is your tough chest

But absent heart beats say it is not

I pretend that small lamp

Flickering in the evening is your desire

I put my palms over it, feel the burn

Like it felt in my cheeks when I was close to you

I tried on all the hushpuppies foot wear

Not one felt like your hands

My eyes do fill with tears over

The harshness of abusive love in public

Private tears are for absence of reticent tentative

gentle  must have been love….

My poems have become shallow

As your memory fades
